Are you sure it's not a software issue?
Also, I recommend connecting your switch between GPIO and GND, and either adding a pull-up resistor to 3.3V, or turning on the built-in pull-up.
Tilt switches are not particularly complicated. You could probably make one with two paperclips and a ball bearing. Or one similar to those found in pinball machines- a conical weight suspended within a circular hole. The weight and the edge of the hole are conductive. The height of the weight alters the sensitivity.
