I had a very similar problem. Buried somewhere deep in this site I found this...

Code:

video=HDMI-A-1:margin_left=50,margin_right=50,margin_top=30,margin_bottom=30
Just append this to the end of cmdline.txt after changing the margin sizes of course... :)

soooooo, with regards to that bit about "append this to the end of cmdline.txt AFTER CHANGING THE MARGIN SIZES OF COURSE...:)"
could you explain that last bit about changing the margin sizes? and then for a novice, where is the cmdline.txt file again?

i just flashed bookworm onto a Pi 4 8G with a generic sanyo TV display. now revisiting the overscan thingy from the original bullseye install of a couple years ago.

from what i can tell, there is not actual workaround but some folks have had limited success with:
reverting to X11--no idea how to go about this (and isn't that newfangled wayland thingy a good portion of the bookworm upgrade?)
installing labwc (my config UI gave me options for open?? with x11 backend; wayfire with wayland; or labwc with wayland) it seems that wayland is the culprit here, no?
i chose labwc with wayland, but there is still no overscan options anywhere.

i suppose disregard for now tho as i've found some picture adjustments in the TV. it looks a bit wonky as horizontal was squished to the absolute minimum, vertical about 75% reduced. look forward to a viable workaround and thanks for all you input and help here, it is very much appreciated.
