One of the very convenient capabilities of the legacy Raspberry Pis was that one could for example clone a configured SD card from a Raspberry Pi 4 and put it into a Raspberry Pi 3a or a Raspberry Pi Zero W and it was working.
I recently bought a Raspberry Pi Zero 2W and was disappointed that it did not boot with my clone.
Now in the raspberry Pi imager, you must define your target hardware.
IMHO not a step in the right direction, nor with Wayland...
