I too had the same issues with tvheadend and the TV HAT crashing. I tried the kernel8.img *hack* but that seemed to cause other issues. So in desperation or at least for a laugh I installed *snap* and then installed the snap version of tvheadend.
Although it is version 4.2.8-dirty instead of the current 4.3.2344 it does seem to work without any hacks. I haven't tested everything - yet - but currently it is stable.
If you've already installed tvheadend, disable it first, otherwise you'll have 2 versions running which will be interesting to say the least.Access via <IP>:9981

Code:
sudo systemctl stop tvheadend.servicesudo systemctl disable tvheadend.service
Code:
sudo apt updatesudo apt upgradesudo apt install snapdsudo reboot (This is needed)sudo snap install snapdsudo snap install tvheadend
