Interesting...before NM became the standard; I used to do the opposite...i.e install NM and remove dhcpcd. I found NM to be much easier.First, this has been long enough ago that I don't remember everything I did to make this work. That being said I don't have a log of every command and step I used to resolve this issue. What I do have are a couple of links that I combined as a guide to get a hotspot going. This is very much a "your mileage may vary" situation, and the links I'm posting are not 100% step by step. Some of the information referenced in the second document does not line up with Bookworm so you have to fiddle a bit. I also seem to remember that one of the packages I needed to make the hotspot work wasn't installed. Once I figured that out and installed it, then things started to click and I was able to make it work. I think it was IPTABLES, but I can't be sure.I'll have to go back through my notes and assemble everything, but yes I will post my solution.
Hey do you mind showing the commands and tools you used when you mentioned "old tools". Im looking to achieve the same.
The first thing I did was follow this post which discusses turning off Network Manager and installing dhcpd.

Then I followed this post to build a hotspot:

I hope this helps.
