(Does need a kernel counterpart as well, but the installation script should be able to build that using DKMS, provided you have the right packages installed, as in: sudo apt install dkms raspberrypi-kernel-headers )
No, it is not installed by default.
But I very much doubt any dsi2hdmi bridge will work out-of-the-box either. Typically also requires messing with kernel modules and/or device tree.
