Hi all! My first post here after many years or lurking!
I have a problem with my Raspberry Pi 4 Model B running CentOS Stream8...a big problem! Which makes me think it might be easier to start again from scratch instead of fixing each and every individual issue I am currently seeing.
I'm okay with that, I have done a lot of experimenting with different bits and pieces over the years, so it might be good to reinstall and have a fresh start as I probably have a lot of leftover rubbish left on there.
My main concern in doing so though is all of my data which currently resides on my SD card. All of my apps run in Docker however my docker-compose.yaml file is totally corrupt and full of random characters. I can't salvage anything from it unless anyone knows how to get around this and then I may be tempted to address a few of the other issues.
I have already rebooted the Pi and therefore my containers are all in a stopped state so I cannot create a new yaml file from anything running. Basically its dead.
All of the data used by my Docker containers is stored at the CentOS level so I think I am able to recover some of this.
All of my config was saved locally under /etc.
So I have /etc/docker, /etc/plex, and the same for homeassistant, wikijs and pihole.
My problem is that I need to use the same SD card to reinstall an OS on. This time I was thinking of going for a standard image like RaspberryPi OS to keep things simple.
So I think I need to know:
1. will the data from /etc/* on my CentOS install work on a Debian based system?
2. Is there any other data I should be looking to transfer over? Contents of fstab I think I should add to the list
3. What is the best way to selectively transfer data from CentOS so that I can then transfer it back to RaspberryPi OS?
I don't seem to have any FTP client running and I currently cannot install one as all of my repos seems to be broken.
I was going to use a TFTP client on my Windows PC but maybe there is a better way? Maybe a simple USB stick would be easiest?
My main goal is to not loose my Wiki data. It contains years of professional work and home guides on IT related subjects that I have encountered during my career.
And I suppose that leads me on to question 4.
What does everyone use to backup their Pi to an external location?
Thanks in advance!
