Sorry, but I don't get that!At work we maintain medical equipment and often use software on a laptop to interact with the equipment. The medical device is connected to the laptop via ethernet and the device then gets put into service mode which polls the laptop to initiate a connection.
The laptop gets polled on a specific IP address which is hard coded into the medical device but different models from the same manufacturer poll on different addresses. We don’t have admin rights on the laptop so are unable to change to change IP addresses on the ethernet port.
Who gave you that laptop? In case you will need to 'maintain' such devices you should have the suitable equipment available. Your explanation sounds more like 'a man in the middle attack' to me ...
