I'm not sure I follow. A manufacturer makes their profit when they sell to a reseller and it should be up to resellers to decide how much profit they want to make themselves. They should be able to decide what they sell the product for, what discounts they offer.Done the RPi way, where everything is sold at a "volume" price, its good for smaller users, compared to the normal quantity price break arrangement (we have large amounts of stock bought because the next price break meant it was very attractive to increase the order quantity, on the basis that "we will use it eventually"!).
If a reseller wants to offer discount for bulk purchase I don't see the problem with that. If consumers are inclined to buy more than they need that's their choice; they aren't forced to. It seems to me the only reason for not letting resellers sell at a lower than mandated price is because it potentially eats into direct sales, manufacturers don't want to compete with resellers, are manipulating sales channels so they can maximise their profit, consumers can't buy as cheaply as they would otherwise be able to.
