I can't think of a non-nefarious reason why anyone would be walking around sniffing for others wifi networks, but in case that was a joke...
It's neither rocket science nor brain surgery:
1. Use properly sized wires (gauge and length)
2. Make sure that when connected to your battery and the pi, has a rise time from 0v to 5.1v of less than 40ms (you will need an oscilloscope to verify that)
3. Ensure everything is properly and reliably connected from battery to converter and from converter to GPIO.
