The reputation of Canakit power supplies in these Forums is far from universally positive.

I didn't realize that.
Correction: it was plugged into a Canakit power supply when it died. I've tried a Labists power supply and an apple laptop USB-C. The Labists one has an inline switch.

update the bootloader?
(grasping at straws)

Already tried that, didn't help
