I would not recommend editing the files directly. For desktop access run:

nm-connection-editor
# or
sudo nm-connection-editor

My mistake. Install network-manager-gnome:
I do most of my fiddling on an ASUS NUC running Debian 12 bookworm. On checking a Rpi5, I realised nm-connection-editor is standard on the Debian release but is not available on the Rpi version.
