General discussion • Dual Boot and RootFS Mode for Failsafe Firmware Upgrade in Yocto-Based Industrial Project

Hi Folks,

I'm pretty new to the forum.

Context: We are aiming for a robust firmware upgrade mechanism that ensures system reliability and integrity. The goal is to have two separate boot partitions that can be toggled to facilitate kernel upgrades without risking system failure.

I'm working on a Yocto-based industrial project where we want to support a dual boot and rootfs mode for failsafe firmware upgrade. We plan to have two FAT32 and two EXT4 partitions (total 4) and aim to provide firmware updates including the /boot (kernel and FW files of /boot) along with the rootfs.

Questions:
1. Is it possible to support dual boot and rootfs mode for failsafe firmware upgrade using AB config?
2. How can I configure two FAT32 boot partitions that can be switched to support kernel upgrades?

Any insights or guidance on achieving this setup would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Arun
