General discussion • Bluetooth headset (with mic) on Pi Zero 2W Bullseye

Hi all,

I'd like to be able to use a Bluetooth headset (e.g., a gaming headset with earphones and a microphone) on a Pi Zero 2W. The Pi is currently running 64-bit headless Bullseye: "Raspberry Pi OS (Legacy, 64 bit) Lite." But I would be OK switching to Bookwork if that makes things work.

My limited Googling skills have taken me to a multitude of obsolete and non-applicable sites without finding any workable solution, at least partly due to the fact that there's no package "bluez-alsa" in that release. The general web consensus seems to be that audio is difficult in Linux, and especially hard on the Pi. Add to that a somewhat problematic Bluetooth on the Zero 2W and it's starting to look like I'll just have to use a wired headset via a USB adapter, which works but is much less desirable in my application (wireless stage intercom).

Can anyone point me to known working instructions for Bluetooth audio input and output on a Pi Zero 2W?

Thanks in advance for any advice, even if the advice is "abandon your quest."
