General discussion • Re: Pi 4/5 won't connect to Android hotspot at 5Ghz

I have been trying to get my Pi 4 and 5 running bookworm to connect to my Android hotspot at 5ghz (Google Pixel 8 Pro). My Windows laptop connects at 5Ghz and the network properties for the connection show: Network band (channel) 5GHz 161
On the Pi iwlist channel shows available channels up to 124 (here are the last few lines of the output:

Channel 116 : 5.58 GHz
Channel 120 : 5.6 GHz
Channel 124 : 5.62 GHz
Current Frequency:2.437 GHz (Channel 6)

I have tried setting the local to another country eg Canada: sudo iw reg set CA but even though iwlist channel shows 161 as available I can't connect to it at all and the network list on the desktop top panel doesn't show the hotspot as a 5g connection. And iwlist channel then reverts back to channels up to 140.
I have been trying to work out what is wrong. It seems to me that I have limited options with the Android Hostspot. I'm not even sure that channel 161 is legal in the UK so I don't know why my phone is using that channel. Unless I have misunderstood what is happening.
Can anyone help me resolve this?
I have absolutely no problem connecting my PIs at 5ghz to an android hotspot. I do it a lot.

A few things to check.

Are you using the internal Wifi or is it an external one?
Are you using a metal case?
Are there any other wireless devices close by that could be affecting it. e.g baby alarms, bluetooth devices, wireless keyboards/mice?
What power supply are you using?
Will the Pis connect to the Android hotspot at 2.5ghz?
How close are the Pi's to the router?
Do the Pi's have an unobstructed line of sight view of the router? e.g no walls between them?
