I think if they play with the system for a month or so they can learn it cause its not different from dish very much, but im just trying to have the capability to remote in and put on what they want to watch when i dont have time, or when i do have time be able to remote in and see what they see so i can talk them through it, because while im sitting there my papa can use the remote with no issues but i have to be able to tell him okay now you push this button to go this direction. So if i can remote in then i can walk him through and still give him the ability to work it himself.If you think they'll have problems using an Apple TV then they will NEVER be able to adapt to a home-built Pi-based system that would undoubtedly look extremely foreign to them when compared to their dish service.
I definitely understand this system, but my grandparents are so used to the dish remote they look at every other remote as a foreign alien device, and its understandable i dont judge them i just havent had a simple fix for them that isnt going to take some time.
I'm definitely not an Apple fanboi but Apple TV IS the simple fix.
