General discussion • Re: Is the Raspberry Pi Zero lineup dead?

Are there any plans to release a successor to the Raspberry Pi Zero 2W :?:
As for a successor, what features do you need?
That feature request is too tempting, even though not directed at me. The Pico is great, but doesn't run Linux nor have the hardware-enforced privilege separation needed for an IoT device during the first cyber war. The Pi 5 is great, but is more like a desktop than an embeddable controller. The CM4 is great, but requires a custom carrier board to work for each project.

I see a niche for an embeddable self-contained power-efficient computer with the hardware memory protection necessary to run Linux. The original Zero played this role well but ARMv6 is becoming difficult to support. The Zero 2 meets almost all requirements except it's too power hungry for some applications.

The dog developer has been asking for a Linux compatible device in the Zero form factor with two Cortex-A55 cores, 2GB RAM and low-latency GPIO on a process node that takes less power than the first Raspberry Pi Zero. It's mostly whining.
