Thanks for the clarification. So the apt package lags behind whats released on Github. That makes sense with what I am seeing.

make a simple test: use another uSD card (should be in your tool-box when dealing with RPi anyhow, there are around 10 in mine so I can easily checkout things) and run

Code:

sudo raspi-update
Will bring you to latest kernel and should also update to latest EEPROM.

If you're still on the old EEPROM after reboot run

Code:

sudo raspi-update next
Which will bring you to 6.6. kernel.
If that solves your problem with the WD drive get back to your 'old' uSD and wait for the packages to show up in apt.
