Ok, I have managed to install the 2021-3-04 Buster raspbios arm64 img, updated the MIPI screen from shell and now it's working.I agree with your analysis that the release of RasPiOS Buster dated 7 May 2021 and released on 28 May 2021 was the final release of RasPiOS Buster in its own right, prior to it being superceded by RasPiOS Bullseye [Debian 11] in October 2021.
(There may have been 'oldstable', aka 'legacy', releases of RasPiOS Buster after that date.)
My suggestion for now is that you get yourself a reliable 'toolchain' such that you can reliably install and run the current RasPiOS Bookworm release on your RPi4 as a 'benchmark.' Trying to perform diagnostics and troubleshooting with unreliable tools only adds to the confusion and frustration.
All other Rasbian images failed to load past the boot screen and post to hdmi. I tried changing imager with Balena and using
the official Pi Imager but no diff. Wondering what could be off. Tnx for the assistance.
