Original post below..
Just found more info about what you're after.
The place to add the config you're after has moved, i think maybe only recently.
I'll be trying it myself as it might save me having to use the Y cable and also kill the USB brownout issue i mention below.
instead of config.txt in /boot, it's now in /boot/firmware

Running a Nexdock (Original) and Pi5 right now, i didn't need to configure anything.
I did however encounter power issues that caused the USB keyboard/trackpad to not work.
I found I had to use a USB isolator for the keyboard/mouse side of things.
I suspect the Pi was trying to draw power through the USB type A / keyboard/trackpad connector and causing the nexdock to brownout.
For some reason Nexdock has set the 5v rail to 5.3v, about 200mv higher than it should be.

The Nexdock is only good for up to around 2 - 2.5 amps and the Pi5 needs 3 for minimal function, and 5 to be ideal.

Really quite amazed they went with v5/5A for the Pi, that's a spec very rare even to good USB PD supplies.

I get good functionality running the Pi on a Powerbank with a 5v3A USBPD capability.
That eliminates the constant USB over current i get on the Pi.

Not sure if any of this is of any use to you.. Found this by accident while searching for a way to change the trackpad polling rate to make it more responsive.
Something i used to do on Pi4, but haven't found it yet.
Will keep looking.
