Okay yes this was disabled but now webGL doesn't work when I enable it. Wait okay so that was because Vulkan was enabled. Now I disable it and I get webGL back and the FPS is better. So that's a win. There was a recent issue with hardware acceleration in Chromium, where video was just blank. The work around was to disable the hardware acceleration.
This has now been resolved with an update. You do need to switch the acceleration on though.
Go into settings on chromium and select the "system" settings. You should there be able to enable hardware acceleration.
Do I need to install something else to get Vulkan to work?
could it be this error I read somewhere that Vulkan and Wayland don't work together when using chromium and need to switch to x11 for that to work?
