Arduino has analogue inputs and Pi GPIO is digital, a choice you might make for other projects. For buttons, it does not matter. The longer the wire, the longer a person might have to press before there is a stable voltage change at the GPIO pin. Will they have a visual indication of success, like an LED?

Or you can use on/off buttons instead of instantaneous.

I suggest beginners start with a Pi 5 for an experimental workstation. After your first success, you will want to automate the feeding in your chicken coop or the watering of your fruit trees or ... There is so much to do.

 I started with a Zero and did nothing because everything was so slow and difficult. Zero 2. Pi 4. Now with a Pi 5 booting from SSD through PCIe 3, everything is so fast, I forget about the hardware speed and focus on code development, experimenting, progress.
