One suggestion is to move ~/.config/wayfire.ini and ~/.config/wf-panel.pi.ini to *.bak and reboot, if you have been doing any config fiddling. You can break Wayfire such that it will not start fairly easily. If you move them aside the system will use the default config files, which will result in Wayfire starting unless you have done something extra special.
Since those are user level configuration files why does the Pi need a reboot? Could loging out and back in not be enough?
Try it, but the time lost in a good quality reboot is negligible.
