Raspberry Pi OS • Re: rpi-imager says a newer version is available

I thought the whole point of using 'apt' packages was to avoid this kind of thing ?
In an ideal world yes. However, packages in repositories regularly have a lag to the latest versions. 1.9.4 is only 3 months old which isn't horrendous by any means. For example, get_iplayer is over 2 years old despite updates every month on GitHub.
I can accept only some old versions being available from 'apt', because "Debian is conservative" as we keep getting told, and it's not always easy to manage third-party stuff, but when you own the full stack, from source code to delivery, there isn't much of an excuse.

It's not a major problem for me at the moment as I have been using 1.9.6 on Windows since it was released. But it would be nice to get something better than 1.8.5 to have equivalency, and be able to cross that off the 'works on Windows, doesn't work on my Pi' list.
