Hello everyone,
I have no idea where to start and that's why I'm here asking for support. I searched on internet and understood that there should be hdparm or udiskctl tools to be able to turn off disks. But I would like to talk about it to see if what I would like to do is feasible.
I have two 2.5'' mechanical USB disks connected to my raspberry Pi4 that I am sharing over the network using a samba server.
What I would like to do is to have an app that checks when the disks are actually being used and if they are idle for 10 mins then selectively turns them off. That is, it shuts down the one that is idle for 10 min but not the other one that is perhaps being used by someone at that time.
When I remotely try to access again one of the two shared disks in lan that was switched off because it had not been used for at least 10 minutes, this app notices this and switches the disk back on, supplying power again and automatically putting the device in the folder I am sharing back into read-only mode.
Is this possible? Could you give me some tips?
Thank you very much and have a nice rest of the day, VAlerio.
