Attach a sound sensor to the gpio and create a loopback/PID program to optimise the sound/fan speed/cooling ratio's.
Could through in the buzzword AI or ML or good old fashion self adjustment, you could even alert yourself to a rattling fan.
It's a Pi, make use of the bits sticking out ;-)
Thank you. I don't need that much. Surely the settings above are more than enough for me.
The problem with small fans is that if they are silent they hardly move air and when they move air they have an electrical noise from the motor that is tedious after a long time with the RPI on and I don't like it.
When I use the Pi I usually do it in a completely silent room and the raspberry is 70 cm from my ears so any noise, no matter how small, I can hear and without being annoying after a long time it gets tiring. The noctua is inaudible and pushes enough air for most of my use cases.
I'm sure the active cooler fan will work in most cases but I'm used to zero noise and that's why looking for the board pin wiring for the rpi5 fan I came to this post.

The fun part is adjusting the rpi5.
