That a piece of software isn't supported, essentially means that nobody has got round to testing it. It might work or it might not; or some bits of it might work.... and if you use it; you're on your own..
I've have used software that wasn't officially "supported" on various platforms in the past; but I'd obviously be cautious about using it in a professional production environment and would always test it in a "sandpit" environment.
