General discussion • Re: This was Thee months ago "can Raspberry Pi rejuvenate its image after all the shortages?"

I'm not planning to watch a YouBoob video that is most likely nothing but whining about how the RPT can't just snap their fingers and make several million Pis suddenly appear.

I would point out, though, that supply shortages have been a problem every time a new Pi is launched, going all the way back to the very first launch. For the Model B, it took upwards of 4 months for some people to get their hands on their first Pi. The RPF and RPT have tried a variety of tactics to get around this problem with successive new boards. This approach with the Pi5 hasn't worked any worse that previous efforts, and the single order restrictions may actually have helped.

The fundamental problem is that any time the RPT launches a new product, there are a large number of people who want to buy it. There is a limit to how much product can be made before a launch date, plus the issues around shipping and delivery to retailers. So...a period of time during which a new product is difficult to impossible to obtain is about what any rational person would expect.

The current test will be to see what supplies look like in January.
