Sorry I have to get back to this here. I did some more testing and I dont think sdm is the problem here.
Rather than cluttering up these forums while resolving this, please open an issue on the sdm GitHub, and provide:
I simply run on a fresh install

The hotspot shows up, but I am not able to connect any device to it.
To me it seems some kind of hardware driver issue withe nm maybe?
