HATs and other add-ons • Re: Can an NVMe attached via a USB->NVMe adapter boot the PI 5?

Thanks for replying. As stated in my question, I can read from and write to all of the NVMe's when they're in the USB adaptor, I just can't boot from any of them. I used rpi-imager to write an image to the NVMe of Raspberry Pi OS (64bit), using a Raspberry 5 as the target platform. When I then use raspi-config to set the boot device to NVMe reboot (and pull out the SD card), it doesn't boot. That applies to all 5 NVMe's I've tried whether in the NVME Hat(s) (2 different models - addressed in a different question), or in my USB->NVMe adapter.

Same problem in both cases: I can read and write to the NVMe, but I can't boot from it. I posted this question separately because I thought/hoped that booting via USB would be different than trying to boot via the PCIe slot. I'm assuming these are two different problems.
