Troubleshooting • Re: Pi Zero W not booting completely without connecting HDMI display

I just tested writing Bookworm with desktop (32-bit) [5th December 2023] to a 32GB card, with OS Customisation to set user, password, SSH with password WiFi details etc. Booted a Pi Zero W with that, and waited 20 minutes (or so). It connected to the local network OK, so I logged in to it using SSH (PuTTY on Win10 PC).
No HDMI display was connected. I did the update and upgrades (38). Rebooted.
I did not try VNC as "RealVNC server itself, which is still used in Bookworm on older Raspberry Pi models which don’t yet run Wayland. The 64-bit version works fine, but the 32-bit version is not currently compatible with Bookworm" - see https://www.raspberrypi.com/news/bookwo ... rry-pi-os/
And we are using 32-bit.
Not sure if/when that will be fixed, so maybe go with a Lite Version for now (32-bit Legacy Bullseye)
Hi,

I tried installing a Lite Version (32-bit Legacy Bullseye) but I still had the same issue.
I did try additional things like
dtoverlay=dwc2 + the cmdline.txt change so I can connect thru ssh using raspberrypi.local
I had that hotplug enabled and I forced a display in the resolution settings in raspi-config.

If I only have it connected to the USB port, nothing happens.
As soon as I connect my display, it boots up and connects to the network.
